Very intriguing series starring Jonathan Groff as Holden Ford, a young FBI agent at the advent of the science of psychological profiling. Excellent writing and character development of this period piece set in the 1970’s, and a very good ensemble cast featuring Holt McCallany, Hannah Gross, Anna Torv and Cotter Smith.
Not only are the characters and story fascinating, so is the arc of Holden, who is a complex character eager to be at the vanguard of this nascent field, and somewhat consumed by the prospect of preventing crimes before they can happen. His own psychology is as intriguing as those of the serial killers he is interviewing as part of his research, and we can see, especially through the relationships with his colleagues and his girlfriend, how lacking he is in many of the norms most of us have developed. That’s not to say he’s some sort of latent Dexter, but he is broken and doesn’t realize it, even as he has brilliant insights into criminals who are similarly self-unaware. I raced through the binge of this first season and can’t wait for the next. Must See
